The Unity Grammar Curriculum
Our curriculum is augmented with practical components to help students translate theory into practice. The content is also presented in a manner which engages students as they confront issues occurring in their daily lives.
Memorisation and understanding of the Quran, Islam’s primary source of legislation and guidance forms an integral component of the syllabus.Arabic, the language of the Quran, is taught at UGC also utilising a well-designed curricular.
All four language skills, viz, listening, speaking, reading and writing, are developed during the course of the program of teaching.
The leadership program is unique at UGC with one period a week from years 7 to 10 dedicated to implementing a structured course focusing on leadership theory and practical application. The content is derived from contemporary leadership theory as well as the rich Islamic legacy of leadership practice.
Careers is an important program offered to Yr. 10 and senior students at Unity Grammar College so that our students are able to make informed decisions on courses to study and careers to consider after they leave school. The UGC careers program provides an understanding of the university application process and allows students to get exposure to different careers and industries.
Students from Yr. 10 attend the annual Western Sydney Careers Expo at Homebush Olympic Park, whilst the Yr. 12s attended the HSC Expo in Moore Park, students benefit from visiting and discussing post school career options with hundreds of exhibitors ranging from Accounting to Zoo Keeping and everything in between! Students also meet with representatives of TAFE NSW, private colleges and all the universities on courses they may consider once their formal schooling is completed.
The event, organised by UWS Parramatta, allows students to attend lectures, workshops and information sessions for a wide variety of courses offered by the university. This is an excellent opportunity for students to start getting familiar with university course options and the demands of tertiary study. Students also visit the University of Sydney as part of their schools program. A number of universities also visit our school to provide students with enrolment information, entry requirements and early entry programs.
Students from Yr. 10 spend a week in the workforce to get a better insight into the career they may be interested in and learn to appreciate the value of punctuality, procedures, policies and operations of their chosen vocation.
UGC competed in the United Nations endorsed Speak for the Planet competition hosted by Liverpool BHS and included schools from across the south west of Sydney. Students had to deliver either impromptu or prepared speeches and in both categories Unity Grammar finished second! This is an extraordinary result by our team of Ali Shehata , Habiba Naanai and of course their coach Ms Sultan. The team was also supported by Zahid Mobeen, Rana Yasin and Amatullah Owaida.
Islamic Studies, Arabic and Leadership
The role of Islamic schooling is to transmit a common set of beliefs, values, norms, and ways of understanding from society to its youth. UGC teaches Islamic values and practices based on the Quran and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (s) to its students using a well-designed curricular.
Our Islamic program at UGC reflects the aims and objectives of a balanced and cohesive Islamic education which caters for the total growth of the student in all aspects: spiritual, intellectual, imaginative, physical, scientific and linguistic. The program seeks to motivate all aspects towards goodness, the attainment of excellence and the realization of complete submission to Allah (SWT).
